Making someone do it
-ఇంచు "make or have someone do", and the doer with -తో.
Adding -ఇంచు -iṁcu to a verb gives a verb for making or having someone do it: చేయు cēyu "do" gives చేయించు cēyiṁcu "have (something) done", and కట్టు kaṭṭu "build" gives కట్టించు kaṭṭiṁcu "have (a house) built". Some causatives are words of their own in English:
| Verb | Causative | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| చేయు cēyu do | చేయించు cēyiṁcu | have done |
| కట్టు kaṭṭu build | కట్టించు kaṭṭiṁcu | have built |
| నవ్వు navvu laugh | నవ్వించు navviṁcu | make laugh |
| తిను tinu eat | తినిపించు tinipiṁcu | feed |
| ఏడ్చు ēḍcu cry | ఏడిపించు ēḍipiṁcu | make cry, tease |
| చూడు cūḍu see | చూపించు cūpiṁcu | show |
| నేర్పు nērpu teach | నేర్పించు nērpiṁcu | teach, have taught |
-ఇంచు verbs are all regular: the past ends in -ఇంచాను, the future in -ఇస్తాను and the joining form in -ఇంచి: చూపించాను cūpiṁcānu "I showed", చూపిస్తాను cūpistānu "I'll show", చూపించి cūpiṁci.
- mēmu kotta illu kaṭṭiṁcāmu.We had a new house built.
- mī phōṭōlu cūpiṁcaṁḍi.Show me your photos.
Who does it
The person made to do something takes -తో "with", and the person taught, fed or shown takes -కి or -కు: నేను అతనితో పని చేయించాను nēnu atanitō pani cēyiṁcānu "I had him do the work", అమ్మ పాపకు అన్నం తినిపించింది amma pāpaku annaṁ tinipiṁciṁdi "mother fed the baby rice".
- atanu aṁdarinī navvistāḍu.He makes everyone laugh.
Sitting and lying: -బెట్టు
పడుకొను paḍukonu "lie down" and కూర్చొను kūrconu "sit" use పెట్టు "put" instead, written -బెట్టు, on the stem in -ఓ: పడుకోబెట్టు paḍukōbeṭṭu "put to bed", కూర్చోబెట్టు kūrcōbeṭṭu "seat".
- pāpanu paḍukōbeṭṭānu.I put the baby to bed.
