The future and plans
-(으)ㄹ 거예요, -(으)ㄹ게요, -겠- and -(으)ㄹ까요.
The present already covers the near future: 내일 가요 "I'm going tomorrow". Korean also has several endings for what is ahead, which differ in how sure and how personal they are.
-(으)ㄹ 거예요: will, going to, probably
For plans and predictions. -ㄹ 거예요 follows a vowel or ㄹ, and -을 거예요 another consonant. It is said 꺼예요.
- jumare chingureul mannal geoyeyo.I'm going to meet a friend at the weekend.
- naeireun biga ol geoyeyo. It'll probably rain tomorrow.
The formal form is -(으)ㄹ 겁니다, and the casual -(으)ㄹ 거야.
-(으)ㄹ게요: I'll (for you)
For what you decide or promise to do, with the listener in mind. It is only for "I" or "we", and is said 께요.
- jega halgeyo.I'll do it.
- ittaga jeonhwahalgeyo.I'll call you later.
-겠-: will, must be
-겠- shows the speaker's firm intention, common in formal and business speech (다시 오겠습니다 "I'll come again"), and a guess from what you see or hear: 맛있겠다! "that looks tasty!" It is fixed in some everyday phrases: 알겠습니다 "understood", 잘 먹겠습니다 "thank you for the meal (before eating)", 모르겠어요 "I'm not sure".
-(으)ㄹ까요?: shall we? shall I?
A suggestion or an offer, as a question: 같이 갈까요? "shall we go together?", 창문을 열까요? "shall I open the window?" With a third person, it wonders: 비가 올까요? "do you think it will rain?"
